sibling class

Covenant Hospital offers a Sibling Class for 3-4 year olds who are expecting a little sister or brother. Addelyn and I attended the class together and it was a fun experience. Our friends Becky and Boaz also attended. Addelyn is very excited about her new little brother and she also loves babies so it was a great option for her! They did some sharing about the items babies use, for example binkys, bottles, diapers, etc. Addelyn loved this part. There was a short movie about a baby brother/sister being born. They got to "learn" how to put on diapers on dolls. Addelyn didn't listen to instructions- she was already done putting her diaper on before the lady was finished instructing. Then they got to do a footprint, like what her new baby brother will have done when he is born. Afterwards, we went up to the fourth floor, where baby brother will be born and we looked at the room and the nursery. It was a fun morning as we countdown til baby brother arrives!

Oh and I forgot to mention, Addelyn has been doing her own hair these days, can you tell?

nursing

This little girl is obsessed with nursing/breastfeeding (the two words she uses to describe what she is doing as she pretends to feed her doll.) Every day, she feeds her baby "right here" she says as she points at her chest. She was helping me cook dinner the other night and figured out she could multi-task by letting baby hang out in her shirt.

"Mom, baby is eating!" she said when I suggested baby would be better off in a different spot while we cooked. Oh, of course. I should have known! My funny little girl.

so gross

Addelyn and I had a good little chat the other night as I laid with her before bed.

"Mommy, I decided I like to eat my boogers." she said.
"Oh, Addelyn that is so gross," I told her.
A long pause...........
"Yeah, but didn't God or Jesus make boogers?"

"Our boogers are full of germs and our body is trying to get rid of them! We can't put them back in our bodies once they leave," I told her.

Another long pause...........
"Well, they don't taste gross so I really like them."

How do you even argue with this? Ahhhh, what do I do? Any booger eating remedies?

five years of wedded bliss

Five years married and 30 weeks pregnant

April 1st was our five year wedding anniversary. We were up at 5:40 a.m. that morning- on our way to Covenant hospital for Addelyn's adnoid and tube surgery. So we spent our anniversary weekend nursing our little girl. We had planned a hotel night away but cancelled because of the last minute surgery option. Mark and I laughed that morning as we drove to the hospital- as we thought about ourselves five years ago. We talked about that day- April 1, 2006- how we were clueless to what our life together could bring. Little did we know, five years from that special day....we'd have had such interesting, unique, amazing, sad, happy, wonderful memories.

In five years- we have spent time house sitting, have gone through large job changes, have had roommates, have lived in the basements of two of our friends (for short time periods), have lost a grandparent & amazing childhood friend, have deeply grown in our friendships with new and past friends, have watched family relationships both grow and change, found out we were pregnant after one year of marriage and our life was changed when Addelyn Nicole arrived, have learned a lot about parenting (and have realized we have so much more to learn), have traveled together, have fought hard, have cried, have laughed a lot, and now are awaiting another bundle of joy! Happy five year anniversary to my husband. Thanks for the great five years- can't wait for another five. Wonder what life will look like on April 1, 2016?

P.S. We did get to go on a short one hour date to the Montage (our fave and where we had our rehearsal dinner) which we ENJOYED!!!!

laughter

Tonight Mark forgot his clothes at work. He often goes to the Rec Center over lunch and today he changed in the bathroom at work. So before dinner, Mark and Addelyn ran to the office to get his clothes. Addelyn questioned Mark, "Daddy, do you change clothes in the bathroom so people in the office won't see your boy part and laugh at you?" (she actually said the correct anatomical word but i'm avoiding weirdos showing up on our blog so i'm not typing it).

timbuktu?

Tonight I was eating some of a leftover snowstorm that Mark had gotten from Four Queens. Addelyn leaned over and looked into my ice cream and said, "Hey Mom, where did you get that ice cream? From Timbuktu?" I had to laugh and then asked her how she knows about Timbuktu. She gave me a look (one that was like, come on Mom!) and said, "Well, Mom, it is where Jonah and Micah live!" (The best part of the story is Micah and Jonah are her imaginary friends that we tell stories about every night before bed. She asks us to tell her a story and she basically ends up telling the story herself- making up details that often fit the story of what she has done that day. Gotta love my girl's imagination!)

tootsie roll

The other morning Addelyn was eating breakfast and she said, "Mom, can we go through the drive through at the bank today?" I told her probably not because we didn't need to go to the bank and asked her why she wanted to do that anyway? She answered, "I'm really in the mood for a tootsie roll!"
